7NEWS has been supplied the social media footage of the incident which allegedly took place at Beenleigh, south of Brisbane, on the Pacific Motorway about 3am on Saturday.
The short clip shows the cat sitting on the 15-year-old girl’s lap before she appears to toss it out of the car’s front passenger window. 7NEWS has chosen not to show the moment.
The video shows the cat going over the concrete guardrail.
Police tracked down the girl at a Gold Coast address on Monday.
She was charged with animal cruelty and endangering the safe use of a vehicle by throwing an object.
She is due to appear in the Southport Childrens Court at a later date.
‘Vile act’
RSPCA Queensland has criticised the girl’s alleged actions.
“We condemn this blatant animal cruelty,” the animal welfare organisation said in a statement.
“They clearly have no empathy and a total disregard for life. It’s an absolutely vile act.
“We also don’t know the outcome and suffering the cat endured from this situation which is awful.”
