18-year-old fugitive wanted for murder in Iowa is fatally shot by officers in California

An 18-year-old fugitive wanted for a homicide in Iowa was killed after officers from three law enforcement agencies opened fire while authorities were serving a search warrant in Anaheim on Friday, Aug. 9, police said.

Around 1:30 p.m., officers with the Anaheim Police Department and the state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation were assisting deputy U.S. marshals with serving the warrant in the 1400 block of N. State College Boulevard, near the 91 Freeway, Anaheim Police Sgt. Matt Sutter said.

The fugitive, suspected of a June 1 homicide in Marshalltown, Iowa, was identified as Victor Delgadillo, 18, wanted on a charge of first-degree murder, according to the Marshalltown Police Department.

Delgadillo was accused of shooting a 41-year-old man at a bar, news outlets in Iowa reported.

The law enforcement officers opening fire in Anaheim were from the corrections department, the Anaheim police force and the U.S. Marshals Service, Sutter said.

It was not immediately clear why Delgadillo was in Anaheim, or whether he shot at officers, but a firearm was found at the scene, Sutter said.

A witness to the shooting told ABC7 he heard between 15 and 20 gunshots.

Delgadillo was taken to a hospital and later died.

No officers were injured in the shooting, but a bystander was struck by a bullet, which resulted in a minor injury, Anaheim police said in a news release. The bystander was taken to a hospital, where he was treated and released a short time later.
