First, let’s talk about the engine, the 42 is powered by a new 294 cc J Panther single-cylinder engine which puts out 26.9 bhp of power and 26.84 Nm of torque. It comes paired with a 6-speed gearbox with a slip and assist clutch and Jawa says that the new 42 features gear-based engine mapping in which the first three gears of the engine put focus on low rpm riding while the fourth gear and up put more focus on the mid-range and top-end for highest performance.
The engine also gets upgrades to help reduce NVH levels and improve engine cooling. The twin exhaust setup gets a redesign with a more free-flow design and the Lambda sensor is now housed near the exhaust ports of the engine block. Other mechanical improvements include a retuned suspension for improved ground clearance and greater ride comfort as well as a revised seat. The updated 42 has a seat height of 788 mm.

In terms of features, the base variants of the new 42 feature a semi-digital cluster, single-channel ABS and spoke wheels. The top trims feature a fully digital cluster, dual-channel ABS, alloy wheels and matte paint options. The bike is based on the same double cradle frame suspended by a telescopic fork and twin shock absorbers as the outgoing model but the compression and rebound damping have been revised. Braking duties are taken care of by a disc brake on both ends.
