First let’s compare the variants and pricing, the old Swift was offered in LXi, VXi, ZXi, and ZXi plus variants whereas the new Swift is offered in LXi, VXi, VXi (O), ZXi, ZXi plus variants, the new model gets a new mid-spec VXi (O) trim. Talking about the pricing, the price for the new Swift ranges between Rs 6.49 lakh – Rs 9.50 lakh (ex-showroom). In comparison, the old Swift was priced between Rs 6.24 lakh to Rs 9.15 lakh (ex-showroom). This means the base price has gone up by Rs 25,000, while at the top-end, it’s dearer by Rs 37,000.
Now let’s compare the powertrain, the biggest change on the new Swift is its powertrain. The new Swift is powered by an all-new Z-Series, 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine which puts out 82 hp of power and 112 nm of torque. The old model was powered by a K12, 1.2-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine with 90 hp and 113 nm.
This means a drop of 8 hp and 1 Nm. Both models get two gearbox options – a 5-speed manual or an AMT. The new Swift has claimed fuel efficiency of 24.8 kmpl for the MT variants and 25.75 kmpl for AMT – 2.42kpl and 3.19kpl more than the previous model. The previous model was available with a CNG option, the new model with the CNG option is expected to be launched in the coming months.
Comparing the dimensions, the new Swift measures 3860 mm in length, 1735 mm in width, 1520 mm in height, 2450 mm in wheelbase and has a boot space of 265 litres. The old one measures 3845 mm in length, 1735 mm in width, 1530 mm in height, 2450 mm in wheelbase and has a boot space of 268 litres. The new Swift is 15mm longer, 40mm narrower and 30mm taller than the old model. The wheelbase remains the same at 2,450mm.
Moving inside, the interior of the new Swift takes inspiration from Baleno and Fronx. It gets a new dashboard layout with a floating infotainment system with sleek AC vents and HVAC controls below. In terms of features, it gets a free-standing 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, Arkamys sound system, connected car tech, 40 plus connected car features, wireless charger, semi-digital cluster with 4.2-inch MID, steering-mounted controls, automatic climate controls, push-button start, rear parking camera with sensors and much more. In terms of safety, the new Swift gets six airbags, ESP, hill hold control, and a three-point seatbelt standard across all variants.
The old model got a smaller 7.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and missed out on features such as wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, wireless charger, premium sound system, connected car tech, six airbags and more.
