2024 Porsche 911 Carrera and Carrera 4 GTS hybrid launched in India: Price, bookings, hybrid-tech explained

German Automaker Porsche globally revealed the 2024 Porsche 911 Carrera and Carrera 4 GTS hybrid two days ago. And now, the company has already bought these models for the Indian market with prices starting from Rs 1.99 crores for the 911 Carrera and Rs 2.75 crores for the 911 Carrera 4 GTS. The bookings for both models are open and interested customers can book it online or by visiting their nearest dealership.The deliveries are expected to start by the end of this year.

First, let’s talk about the engine itself, the new Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS is powered by a newly developed 3.6-litre hybrid petrol engine. Called a T-Hybrid petrol-electric system, the setup features a 3.6-litre six-cylinder boxer engine, a gearbox-mounted electric motor and a 1.9 kWh lithium-ion battery. The boxer engine alone puts out 485bhp and 570Nm of torque. Combined with the hybrid system, the output is 540bhp and 610Nm.

The new hybrid system features an electric exhaust gas turbocharger. An electric motor, placed between the compressor and turbine wheel to quickly accelerate the turbocharger which generates the boost pressure. This motor also acts as a generator, producing up to 15bhp of electric power from the exhaust gas flow. The wastegate-free design of the electric turbocharger eliminates the need for the previously used dual turbochargers.
The powertrain includes another electric motor situated within the eight-speed PDK gearbox. This motor supports the boxer engine with up to 150Nm of torque at idle speed and offers a power boost of up to 40kW. Both electric motors are powered by a 1.9 kWh battery pack which is in comparable in size and weight to a standard 12 V starter battery and operates at 400V.

Porsche claims that the 911 GTS can sprint from 0-100 kph in 3 seconds and has a top speed of 312 kph. Porsche also says that the new GTS lapped the 20.8 km Nurburgring Nordschleife 8.7 seconds quicker than its predecessor. Talking about the 911 Carrera, it’s still powered by the same 3.0-litre twin-turbo boxer engine but now gets an intercooler. This engine puts out 389 bhp and 450 Nm and Porsche claims a 0.1 second reduction in the 0-100 kmph sprint and a top speed of 294 kph.

The updated models feature cosmetic changes, improved aerodynamics, additional features, more equipment and a new interior. It gets re-designed headlamps with the four-point LED daytime running lamps, new bumpers and a sleeker lightbar at the rear. The GTS additionally gets active air vents on the front bumper with flaps that open and close to channel air for improved cooling or reducing drag.

The 911 GTS also gets rear-wheel steering and PASM sport suspension with adaptive dampers. It now features wider rear tyres and offers drag-reducing wheels and customers can also opt for Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) which uses electro-hydraulics powered by the high-voltage battery for improved performance.

Moving inside, the new Porsche 911 gets a tweaked interior layout with additional features. It gets fully digital with a 12.6-inch curved display, a 10.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless phone charging up to 15W in a cooled compartment, high-power USB-C ports and much more. The 911 Carrera and GTS will be available in coupe and cabriolet body styles. The GTS will additionally be offered in the Targa body style.
