7 Killed In Blast At Illegal Crackers Factory In West Bengal

New Delhi: There has been a blast in a firecracker factory in Duttapukur, in North 24 Paraganas District, West Bengal. The blast has happened in an illegal firecracker factory and till now, at least seven people are feared dead. In this blast, several houses have also been damaged. According to the Duttapukur Police sources as reported by ANI, the injured have been taken to Barasat Hospital for treatment.

Explosion In A Firecrackers Factory In West Bengal 

As mentioned earlier, at lease seven people have been killed in this blast and the injured are being taken to the hospital for treatment. A rescue operation is underway. According to the fire brigade officials at the spot, the explosion was so powerful that the nearby buildings were also affected by it. The locals, when speaking to the media persons have said that the blast happened in a two-storey house at around 10:40 am in Duttapukur’s Nilgunj area. The firecrackers factory was being run illegally from this house.

The state food minister and legislator from the area Rathin Ghosh has said that about seven people have died and about six people were injured. He also said that he will be visiting the spot soon and the firecrackers were stocked in this building but the crackers were not being made here; the main hub was Nilgunj’s Narayanpur area. The crackers units in that area was shut down completely by the police.

Similar Incidents Have Taken Place In West Bengal In The Past

This is not the first time an explosion has happened in West Bengal, many such incidents have taken place in the recent past. Two incidents happened in May, 2023- an explosion in the fireworks factory killed nine out of which two were women and eight were injured at Egra, Midnapore district; in another explosion at an illegal firecracker manufacturing unit in a residential area, three people were killed.
