“I figure I might as well spend the extra dollar,” he said of his Encore purchase, in which he matched the last six of seven numbers.
It’s the retired father of two’s largest win to date after playing for more than 30 years. He learned of his good luck while getting his numbers checked at the store.
“I asked the cashier to validate my ticket and the machine read ‘Big Winner,’” he recalled.
“I was very surprised and excited to find out that my Encore addition had paid off.”

Blakely called his daughters over so he could reveal the good news in person.
“They were in disbelief until they saw the ticket,” he said. “They said it was like a birthday present for me!”
While Blakely has no major plans for his winnings, he admitted, “I’m considering investing.”
Blakely purchased his ticket at Avondale on Linwell Rd. in St. Catharines.
