Riley Keough has had a profoundly eventful first half of 2023, filled with personal and professional achievements as well as tragedies.
During the same week that she celebrated her Emmy nomination for her role in Daisy Jones & The Six, the granddaughter of Elvis Presley also commemorated her brother’s death anniversary.
In fact, the Amazon Prime series was announced on July 25, 2019, a mere two weeks after Benjamin Keough was discovered dead at his California home.
Riley was still coping with the unexpected loss of her mother, Lisa Marie Presley, on January 12 of this year, just weeks before her new show finally aired.
On July 12, she experienced the excitement of a major award nomination while also remembering the day she lost her only brother.
Interestingly, Riley initially did not realize that she had been nominated because she was quietly spending time at home with her family.
Speaking to Vanity Fair, she said, “I was in my house and my phone was on silent because I was with my family, and when I checked my phone again, I had like 700 missed texts and calls, so I assumed I got nominated.”
The 34-year-old posted a simple tribute on her Instagram stories, captioning a beautiful and amusing black and white photo of her mother and brother with “Missing you both.”
Lisa Marie and Benjamin are buried alongside Elvis Presley at Graceland.
Riley previously described the year of grieving her brother as “feeling like I was thrown into the ocean and couldn’t swim.”
Her grandmother, with whom she had recently been involved in a court case over the estate of Lisa Marie, also shared her heartfelt message.
Priscilla wrote, “Needless to say, this has been a very solemn day for me – the anniversary of the passing of my sweet grandson Ben. Words cannot express how much you are missed. Nona.”
Riley and Priscilla resolved their dispute in May, with reports stating that the actress paid her grandmother $1 million for sole control of Lisa Marie’s estate.
