Vladimir Guerrero Jr. homers in Blue Jays’ win
After dominating the Home Run Derby, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. wasted no time getting back to business as the Toronto Blue Jays started the second half of the season with a win against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Guerrero hit a home run in the second inning to kick-start the Blue Jays’ 7-2 victory.
Toronto broke the game open in the seventh inning, scoring five runs to break the 2-2 tie. Guerrero’s homer was his fourth in the past 10 home games, making him the first Home Run Derby champion to hit a home run in his first at-bat after the break. The Blue Jays’ offense looked promising, with 16 hits and good at-bats throughout the game.
Starting pitcher Jose Berrios had a decent outing, giving up one run in 5.2 innings before being replaced with Trevor Richards. Richards allowed a home run, but the Blue Jays regained control in the seventh inning, scoring four more runs to secure the win.
