Plans are underway for a new microbrewery space and storage complex in Walnut Creek. A real estate deal has been completed to replace an older industrial center.
According to public records, an old industrial and commercial building has been purchased by SecureSpace Self Storage, acting through an affiliate. The property is located at 2700 Mitchell Drive in the Shadelands district of Walnut Creek.
The property was purchased for just under $14.3 million and spans 7.8 acres. It currently houses a large industrial and commercial building with a total area of 89,500 square feet, as stated in the county records and property brochure. MRE Commercial Real Estate’s team of brokers had been marketing the property for sale.
The redevelopment plan involves the demolition of the existing building to make way for the new Calicraft Brewing craft brewery and a large storage complex, according to documents filed with Walnut Creek city officials.
The planned development includes a new Calicraft microbrewery spanning approximately 9,000 square feet, with indoor and outdoor seating. Additionally, there will be a three-level self-storage center covering 155,600 square feet, according to city documents.
According to Jeffrey Weil, an executive vice president with Colliers, the current Calicraft taproom is already popular and often crowded. The expansion to a larger indoor venue is expected to attract even more customers.
The demand for self-storage is high in the area, attracting numerous people who want access to their stored belongings. A new Calicraft taproom is expected to further add to the popularity of the location.
“The line is already out the door, especially on weekends, at Calicraft,” said Weil. The brewpub currently operates seven days a week.
