The BMW X1 M35i xDrive is set to become the most expensive small SUV in the local market, with a price tag of $90,900 before on-road costs. This makes it $6000 more expensive than the current flagship model, the electric iX1 xDrive30. The hotter X1 model is scheduled to be launched by the end of this year.
The M35i xDrive is equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 233kW of power and 400Nm of torque. It comes with all-wheel drive and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The Australian market version of the M35i has a higher-output tune compared to the European market version.
In terms of performance, the M35i boasts the most power of any petrol X1 model ever sold in Australia, with a claimed 0-100km/h time of 5.4 seconds. The fuel consumption is estimated to be between 8.0 and 8.5 liters per 100km according to WLTP combined cycle measurements.
The M35i features a range of additional features including a new M Compound brake system, adaptive M suspension, and a lowered ride height of 15mm. It also has four exhaust outlets, a unique front apron, rear spoiler, side skirt extensions, and a grille with horizontal double bars.
For interior options, customers can choose between different upholstery materials and finishes. The M Sport Pro package adds high-gloss Shadowline exterior trim, power-adjustable M Sport seats with illuminated M logos, and M seat belts. Optional extras include Vernasca leather upholstery and Aluminium Hexacube Pale inlays.
The X1 M35i is one of the first BMW models to feature the Android-based Operating System 9, which offers an improved menu structure and QuickSelect functionality. It also includes an integrated e-SIM for remote software updates.
Standard safety features include autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and a 3D surround-view camera. The X1 M35i comes in Alpine White solid paint as standard, with options for BMW Individual finishes such as Storm Bay and Frozen Pure Grey.
The BMW X1 M35i xDrive is priced at $90,900 excluding on-road costs.
