The Surat Diamond Bourse is set to become the world’s largest office building, surpassing the size of the Pentagon. The building will house 4,500 diamond trading offices and employ over 67,000 people. Designed by Manit Rastogi’s Morphogenesis, the complex is based on the concept of Panchtatva, incorporating the five elements of nature. It consists of nine 15-story towers and features 4,500 interconnected offices. Situated within the expansive Diamond Research and Mercantile (DREAM) City, the project has a total cost of Rs 3,200 crore. Prime Minister Modi praised the project on Twitter, highlighting its contribution to the growth and dynamism of Surat’s diamond industry as well as India’s entrepreneurial spirit.

The Surat Diamond Bourse is an initiative to shift and expand the diamond trading business from Mumbai to Surat, a major hub for cutting and polishing diamonds. Currently, diamond trading in Surat takes place in open markets with minimal security measures. The majority of the diamond trading occurs in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex, which caters to international buyers. The Surat Diamond Bourse aims to provide a secure and modern trading environment for the industry.

The state-of-the-art Surat Diamond Bourse building is designed to consume 50% less energy and has achieved a “platinum” rating from the Indian Green Building Council. It incorporates a radiant cooling system and utilizes solar energy for common areas. The building features 4,700 offices and 131 elevators. Additional facilities include recreational spaces, security and surveillance areas, multipurpose halls, dining spaces, banking facilities, and parking.
