WhatsApp Group Calls Just Got Bigger: Now Up to 15 People Can Join at Once
WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is introducing a new feature on iOS beta that allows users to initiate group calls with up to 15 people. Previously, group calls supported up to 32 participants, but users could only initiate a call with up to 7 people. With this new feature, beta users can now initiate group calls with up to 15 people, while still allowing a maximum of 32 participants in total. The aim is to make it more convenient for users to add more participants during the group call setup. The feature is currently rolling out to some beta testers, with a wider rollout expected in the coming days. Meta Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg had announced the 32-person video calling feature for WhatsApp in November last year.
In addition, WhatsApp is also rolling out a feature on iOS beta that allows users to send high-quality videos. Although some compression will still be applied to the video, this feature preserves the video dimensions. The default option for videos will be “Standard quality”, but users can select the high-quality option each time they want to send a video with better quality. A tag will be added to the message bubble to inform the recipient that the video was sent using this feature.
