The former head of the Republican National Committee, Michael Steele, criticized 2024 GOP candidate Nikki Haley’s attempt to “have it both ways” with Donald Trump. Haley, the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, called for generational change in the party and criticized Trump, but also admitted she’d still vote for him if he was the nominee. Steele called Haley’s remarks “bubblegum speak” and suggested she either confront Trump or drop out of the race. He also stated that Haley would have to emulate Chris Christie’s approach of repeatedly criticizing Trump in order to be taken seriously as a candidate. Steele expressed frustration with the lack of unity within the party and accused Republicans of protecting Trump out of fear.
