Tuberville Takes a Stance Against ‘Woke, Political Military’ with a Blockade

(NewsNation) — The efforts of Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville to change the Defense Department’s abortion policy is causing delays in the approval of hundreds of military nominations and promotions. This has resulted in less experienced individuals being placed in top positions, raising concerns about military readiness.

Tuberville expressed his concerns, stating, “I do not want our military to turn into a woke political, military. Our military is not union for a reason. It’s not an equal opportunity employer, either.”

Tuberville appeared on NewsNation’s “Elizabeth Vargas Reports” to discuss his blockade and emphasize the importance of a congressional vote on the military abortion policy.

“If they truly cared about readiness and the things that really need to be happening with our military, they would change this (abortion policy) back in five minutes, and then send the bill down here to the floor,” Tuberville explained.

The approval of military nominations and promotions requires unanimous participation of Senate members and Tuberville is standing firm in his decision to continue the blockade.

Currently, the impasse remains unresolved. Democrats argue that a vote on every nominee could potentially tie up the Senate floor for months, and they are unwilling to comply with Tuberville’s demands as it may set a precedent for future blockades of nominees.
