Speaking after her visit to the small community of Brooklyn, where a missing youth search was ongoing, Freeland stated that they would work harder to improve the pace of financial assistance for uninsured flood victims. The disaster relief program, which is largely federally funded but administered by the province, has faced delays with Nova Scotians reporting a lack of help for flood-damaged homes. Liberal MP Kody Blois assured that Ottawa is committed to funding up to 90% of the available $200,000 assistance for homeowners. Meanwhile, the provincial cabinet ministers highlighted the massive costs involved in repairing damaged infrastructure, including roads and bridges. Public Works Minister Kim Masland estimated the damage to be in the tens of millions, with the ministry still assessing the full extent and preparing to request federal assistance.
