Production capacity issues prompt Ola Electric to discontinue S1 variant of electric scooter lineup: Ola S1 discontinued

Bengaluru-based electric vehicle manufacturer Ola Electric has discontinued the S1 electric scooter in India. The company has pulled the plug on the base-spec S1 variant ahead of S1 Air’s debut today.

The manufacturer has delisted the electric scooter from its official website. Now, the company only has the S1 Pro and S1 Air on offer. The S1, which was launched in 2021, marked the company’s entry in the electric two-wheeler market in India.

We reached out to the EV manufacturer but it hasn’t shared a reason for why the S1 was discontinued. There might be some clarity on the matter further down the line. We can only speculate that this could be the result of limited production capability as Ola had earlier halted the production of the said variant last year, encouraging its customers to opt for the more expensive S1 Pro.

Further, with the company placing their hopes high on the newly-launched S1 Air, the company might be redirecting their production capabilities to the new product.

Furthermore, CEO Bhavish Aggarwal has also confirmed that the company is also working on electric motorcycles, thus aiming to expand their portfolio. On the other hand, the company had opened the purchase window for the all-new S1 Air a day prior to its initially planned date.

As per the company’s claims, it has received over 3,000 bookings in just a few hours after having opened the window. The S1 Air is based on the same platform as the S1 Pro but with cost-cutting measures such as a smaller 3kWh battery pack, the company has made it much more affordable. It is claimed to deliver a range of 125 kms on a single charge and is priced at Rs. 1.20 lakh, ex-showroom.
