During the live Ashes coverage, former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting had a rather unpleasant experience when he was hit by grapes. The incident occurred at the end of Day One of the fifth Test when Ponting was discussing the day’s play. Numerous grapes were thrown at him, and some were even found near his shoes on the field.
After the incident, Sky Sports presenter Ian Ward pointed out the grape attack to Ponting, stating, “It looks like you’re being peppered with grapes.” Ponting expressed his displeasure and said, “I’ve just been hit by a grape. I wouldn’t mind finding out who that was actually.”
Moving on to the match, Australia had a successful day as they bowled out England for 283 runs and had a solid start with the bat. Despite challenging conditions, openers David Warner and Usman Khawaja showed determination and laid a strong foundation for Australia. However, Warner’s innings came to an end on 24 runs when he edged a delivery from Woakes and Crawley took a remarkable catch in the slips. Khawaja and Labuschagne then steered Australia through the rest of the session, finishing the day at 61-1.
