New Delhi: The Lok Sabha will discuss on 8 and 9 August the no-confidence motion that the Opposition INDIA bloc has brought against the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), news agencies reported.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reply on the 10th.
The no-trust motion, which was accepted by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla last week, was moved by INDIA over the Manipur violence which is yet to come up for discussion in the Parliament. While the Opposition wants a detailed discussion under Rule 267, the government is ready only for a short-term one.
The 26-party INDIA, which has 144 MPs in the Lok Sabha, has been supported on the motion by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
KCR has not joined the bloc over his differences with the Congress, which is the principal opposition in poll-bound Telangana. The BRS is, however, opposed to the BJP.
From the BRS, MP Nama Nageshwar Rao had separately moved a notice for a no-confidence motion on 26 July.
Though the Opposition does not have the numbers, leaders argued that this was a strategy to make the Prime Minister speak in the House on any crucial matter.
Parliament has barely functioned since the Monsoon Session began on 20 July as the Opposition is adamant over a detailed discussion on Manipur, topped with a “comprehensive statement” by Modi.
