Amazon’s Virtual Clinic Now Accessible Across all 50 States in the U.S.

Amazon is expanding its virtual clinic by adding video telemedicine visits in all 50 states. This move demonstrates the retail giant’s deeper involvement in care delivery.

Amazon announced on Tuesday that customers can access its virtual clinic through Amazon’s website or app at any time. They can compare prices and response times before selecting a telemedicine provider from multiple options available.

Initially focused on text message-based consultations, the clinic, which does not accept insurance, was launched last fall. Text message consultations are still available in 34 states.

Amazon states that the clinic provides care for over 30 common health conditions.

Telemedicine gained immense popularity, known as virtual care, when COVID-19 emerged a few years ago. It continues to be a preferred method for convenient check-ins with doctors or addressing minor health issues like urinary tract infections or pink eye.

Amazon also mentions that its virtual clinics offer treatment for erectile dysfunction.

Dr. Nworah Ayogu, Chief Medical Officer, stated in a blog post that the clinic aims to eliminate barriers in assisting individuals with their “everyday health concerns.”

Ayogu wrote, “As a doctor, I have witnessed firsthand that patients desire good health but lack the time, tools, or resources to effectively manage their care.”

Amazon revealed that messaging-based consultations have an average cost of $35, while video visits cost $75.

This is more cost-effective compared to many in-person doctor visits, which can exceed $100 for individuals without insurance or coverage that requires a high deductible.

Apart from virtual care, Amazon also operates its Amazon Pharmacy business, which sells prescription drugs. This year, it completed the acquisition of One Medical, a membership-based primary care provider, for $3.9 billion. One Medical has approximately 815,000 customers and 214 medical offices in over 20 markets.
