Former Cowboys first-round pick Taco Charlton signs with the 49ers

The 49ers are taking a chance on former high draft pick Taco Charlton, who was selected in the first round by the Dallas Cowboys in 2017 from Michigan.

Charlton had a successful college career with the Wolverines but has struggled to make a significant impact at the professional level. After being drafted 28th overall by the Cowboys, he spent just over two seasons with the team before being released in the second week of the 2019 season. Charlton then played for the Dolphins in 2019 and signed with the Chiefs in 2020. Since then, he has had limited playing time with the Steelers and Bears.

In recent years, the 49ers have provided a platform for several defensive linemen to boost their value, with Kerry Hyder Jr. and Arden Key both using their time with the team to secure larger free-agent contracts.
