The music industry was transformed by streaming, so Warner Music Group appointed a streaming executive as the new CEO.
Robert Kyncl, the company’s new CEO, was previously the chief business officer of YouTube and played a key role in its success in creator monetization and streaming music. Before that, he worked at Netflix as the vice president of content, focusing on partnerships for the streaming era.
Next month, Kyncl will have a conversation with Vox senior correspondent Peter Kafka at the Code Conference, discussing music and streaming. Kyncl aims to prioritize artists and partners at WMG, believes music is undervalued, and sees AI as a potential transformative force for the company.
The Code Conference will take place on September 26th and 27th at the Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel in California. It will feature interviews with CEOs such as Linda Yaccarino, Kevin Scott, Mary Barra, and more. The conference will be hosted by Nilay Patel, Casey Newton, and Julia Boorstin, with special guest speakers including Kara Swisher, co-founder of the Code Conference.
