The Australian Education Union (AEU) is launching a national campaign at Parliament House to advocate for full funding of public schools by 2028. The AEU’s For Every Child campaign is calling on the government to increase funding contributions and establish a timeline for full funding by 2028, which would allow for smaller class sizes and more preparation time for teachers. The campaign comes in response to a Guardian Australia series revealing that funding to private schools has increased more than public schools since the Gonski review. The AEU’s president, Correna Haythorpe, emphasized that 98% of public schools are currently funded below the schooling resource standard (SRS). The AEU is urging the government to increase its contribution to public schools to a minimum of 25% for all states and 40% for the Northern Territory.
