Google updates privacy policy to include option for explicit image removal

(NewsNation) — Google is introducing new privacy and online safety features to better protect users’ personal information.

In an update to its Search tool, users now have the ability to find and request the removal of personal Google results.

“We will be launching a new dashboard that informs you if web results with your contact information are appearing in Search. From there, you can easily request the removal of those results from Google using the tool. We will also notify you whenever new results containing your contact information appear in Search, giving you added peace of mind,” as stated in Google’s blog post.

To access this tool, choose “Results about you” in the Google app.

In addition, the company has updated its policy regarding the removal of explicit images.

“We have always had guidelines that enable you to remove nonconsensual explicit imagery from Search,” Google explained. “Now, we are expanding on these safeguards to allow individuals to remove any personal, explicit images from Search that they no longer want to be visible, even if they have been posted elsewhere without consent.” It’s worth noting that this policy does not apply to commercialized content.
