Scared of Pence: Trump’s Recent Outburst Reveals Concerns, Paul Begala Asserts

According to Democratic strategist Paul Begala, Donald Trump’s recent social media attack on Mike Pence suggests that Trump is afraid of what Pence may reveal about him under oath. Begala referenced an old saying that states, “A hit dog will holler,” indicating that when Trump is aggressively criticizing someone, it is likely because he is fearful of them. Begala noted that Trump had never targeted Pence before because his polling numbers were low, but now that Pence is potentially a threat, Trump is attacking him. Begala speculated that Pence could testify against Trump in his election conspiracy trial, as Pence has the ability to tell the truth, which frightens Trump and motivates his attacks. Trump’s post on Truth Social accused Pence of turning to the “Dark Side” after speaking out against Trump following his recent indictment. Trump was charged with four federal felonies related to his attempt to overturn the 2020 election, with evidence in the indictment reportedly coming from Pence’s contemporaneous notes of conversations with Trump. Pence has been critical of Trump since the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, and he has increased his criticism since the indictment, accusing Trump and his lawyers of pressuring him to reject electoral votes for President Joe Biden. Pence and Trump are both running for president in 2024, with Pence polling at around 5% compared to Trump’s 53%. Trump has been indicted three times this year and is facing trial in the coming year for the first two cases related to a hush money scheme and mishandling classified documents.
