Antioch marina brawl and shooting leaves girl in critical condition

ANTIOCH — A teenage girl was shot and badly wounded Saturday after a brawl and shooting at the Antioch marina followed by gunfire near homes in the East Bay city, police reported.

A 14-year-old teenage girl was transported to a hospital after suffering “life-threatening injuries” as a result of the shooting, the Antioch Police Department reported on Saturday.

The incident erupted with an altercation and shooting at the Antioch Marina, police said.

After that, gunfire was reported in the 1000 block of West 6th Street between K and L streets in Antioch, according to police.

Police began to receive reports of shots fired on West 6th Street at around 2:58 a.m., according to investigators.

At about that time, Contra Costa County Sheriff’s deputies located a shooting victim at Century Plaza in Pittsburg. The county deputies determined the victim had been shot in Antioch.

“During the initial investigation, it was learned an altercation had occurred between a group of subjects at the Antioch Marina where shots were fired,” Antioch police said.

The gun battle resumed several blocks from the marina in the Antioch residential area.

“As the groups left the marina in their vehicles, the altercation continued to the 1000 block of West 6th Street where more shots were fired,” according to police.

Eventually, the shooting victim, identified as a 14-year-old female, was driven to Century Plaza, a large retail center in Pittsburg.

A 911 call was placed to police dispatchers from the Century Plaza site, investigators stated.

Antioch police said they are “actively” working on the investigation into the shooting.
