Mahindra Thar.E: Mahindra Thar.e unveiled: Electric SUV’s features, launch time explained

After unveiling the Global Pik-Up, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. has now unveiled the concept Thar.e at its FutureScape event in Cape Town. The company states that the Mahinda Thar.e will be developed grounds up to be an EV as part of the Born Electric range and won’t be an electric conversion of the ICE Thar. The five-door version of the Mahindra Thar.e will have a new Mahindra logo.

Mahindra Thar.e: New platform
Mahindra has confirmed that its upcoming Thar.e will be based on its new platform called the INGLO-P1 platform, offering increased ground clearance and best off-road capability. The wheelbase of the Thar.e will range from 2,775 mm – 2,975 mm to accommodate the extra doors and battery pack.

Mahindra Thar.e: Design
Mahindra Thar.e gets a futuristic design as compared to its existing ICE model. The electric SUV gets squarish LED headlamps with rounded-off corners and a glossy black upright nose. The steel front bumper of the Thar.e gives the EV a rugged look. At the sides, the electric Thar looks elongated with an extra set of doors and gets large alloy wheels with squared-out wheel arches. Similar to the current-gen model, the Mahindra Thar.e gets a spare wheel on the tailgate and squarish LED tail lamps.
Mahindra Thar.e: Cabin
Inside the cabin, the Mahindra Thar.e will have 75 sounds right from opening the door to different drive modes, all being developed by Indian musical composer, A R Rahman, says Mahindra. Moreover, the electric SUV will have a water hose inside that can clean the cabin entirely after off-roading.

The interior of the Mahindra Thar.e will have a minimalistic dashboard design, featuring a large touchscreen infotainment system, a digital driver display, and a new steering wheel. The company is yet to reveal more details about the upcoming SUV.
Mahindra Thar.e: Powertrain
The electric Thar is likely to employ a bigger battery pack to meet the off-road characteristics, as compared to the Mahindra XUV400. It is expected to come equipped with two motors with a 4WD system. Furthermore, the instantly generated torque will also enhance the off-roading capabilities.
Mahindra Thar.e: Expected launch time
The company has not revealed the launch timeline of the Mahindra Thar.e, but as the new electric vehicle plant will start operations by March 2024, we expect the Thar.e to be launched towards later 2024 or early 2025.

Apart from showcasing the Mahindra Thar.e, the company also confirmed that its ICE brands will be electrified in the near future. All upcoming Mahindra electric vehicles will feature 75 sounds, right from opening the door to different drive modes, all being developed by Indian musical composer, A R Rahman. Moreover, Mahindra also confirmed that the copper twin peak will be used only on one EV, the XUV400 else all EVs will have the new logo unveiled today at the event.
