The new Aston Martin DB12 Volante is based on the same platform as the hard-top Aston Martin DB12 but the Volante’s chassis has been reinforced due to the absence of a roof which reduces the torsional rigidity. The suspension mounts also have been made stiffer by 140 per cent at the front and Aston Martin also said that a cross-brace has been added across the engine bay.

Aston Martin claims that all these modifications made to the car have resulted in 3.7 per cent more torsional rigidity than the DB11. The convertible soft top has been borrowed from DB11 and the company claims it can open in 14 seconds and close in 16 seconds at speeds of up to 50 kmph. Aston Martin also claims that the roof of the convertible has been “acoustically enhanced” with eight layers of insulation which makes it almost as quiet as the coupe.

The folding of the roof is done in a two-stage pattern with a 260 mm stack height. The standard colour of the roof is black and customers can also opt for red, blue, and black and silver. Moving on to the interior, the DB12 gets wood veneer and carbon fibre panels inside. It features a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system paired with Bowers & Wilkins audio system. It gets 11 speakers as standard and customers can also opt for 15 speakers.

Now talking about the engine, the Aston Martin DB12 Volante convertible is powered by a Mercedes-AMG sourced 4.0-litre twin-turbo petrol engine which puts out 671 hp of power and 800 Nm of torque. The engine comes paired with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission which sends power to the rear wheels only. It also gets an electronic rear differential and Aston Martin claims it can sprint from 0-100 kph in just 3.7 seconds and has a top speed of 325 kmph.
