NEW DELHI: Asserting that “lamp of development” has to be lit up in every village, tehsil and district to make India a developed country by 2047, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday urged BJP’s ‘zila panchayat‘ members to work to make development initiatives a mass movement.
Addressing virtually a “Kshetriya Panchayati Raj Parishad” of local body members drawn from several states, including Gujarat, Maharashtra and MP, he said ‘sabka saath, sabka vikas’ is not merely a slogan for BJP and they should live it every moment. The two-day conclave is being held at Dadar and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu where BJP president JP Nadda was also present.
Modi said those serving in different positions at local bodies should take up some work for their villages and districts on priority and go all out to make it a success by getting people’s support. “When I was the CM of Gujarat, I had made a working style. I used to decide a theme every year. As I chose the subject of girl child education, police department, home guards and doctors all had to work on it for some time apart from their work. When full power was applied, great success was achieved,” he recalled.
Modi said, “I was a person of an organisation, because of that I used to get information about the grassroot level of the state very quickly and when I put those things in front of the officers, they used to be surprised. Due to this, they always were alert. If you also keep getting every information of your district continuously, it can increase your performance.”
He urged zila panchayat members to hold meetings to take up three projects as priority every year while noting that funds for local bodies have risen manifold.
