A 22-year-old influencer from Aurora found out the hard way that York Regional Police are fast learners when it comes to cracking down on street racing.

The York police road safety bureau began an investigation after receiving reports that a male was posting social-media content that featured a blue 2022 BMW sedan involved in alleged street-racing activities across York Region and other parts of the GTA.

Police executed a search warrant at a residence on Aug. 16, seizing fake licence plates, electronic devices and other items. A 22-year-old man from Aurora was charged with three counts each of dangerous driving and stunt driving and his licence was suspended for 30 days. A BMW was also impounded for 14 days.
“Speeding and dangerous driving continue to be a problem on our roads,” Sgt. Clint Whitney said in a news release. “It is a major factor in many motor-vehicle collisions and often an aggravating factor in tragic incidents resulting in death and serious bodily harm.
“Dangerous driving will not be tolerated in our communities.”

Whitney said people who witness dangerous driving should call 911 and try to take note of the vehicle’s location, direction of travel, make, model and licence plate number, as well as the driver.
