Green Lights, Diversions, Restrictions: G20 Summit Delhi traffic regulations in effect

Tight security has been put in place in New Delhi ahead of the 18th G20 Summit, which will be held in the city from September 9 to 10. The summit will be attended by the heads of state and government of the world’s 20 largest economies.
In addition to the security measures, a number of traffic restrictions have also been imposed in the capital. Several roads will be closed, and traffic will be diverted on other roads. The New Delhi district, where the delegates will be staying and travelling across the summit venues, will be put under a strict security ring. It will be considered as Controlled Zone-I, in effect from 5 AM in the morning today to 11:59 PM on Sunday.
On Friday morning, Delhi Traffic Police announced the suspension of bus movement into the city from the Rajokri border, effective from September 8th to September 10th.
Furthermore, online delivery services are restricted in the vicinity of the G20 summit venue and delegate hotels, except for medicines. As per the Delhi Government’s gazette notification issued on Tuesday, various types of vehicles, including goods vehicles, commercial vehicles, interstate buses, and local city buses, are prohibited from operating on Mathura Road (beyond Ashram Chowk), Bhairon Road, Purana Quila Road, and inside Pragati Maidan Tunnel. This restriction too, is in effect from 12:00 AM on the night of September 7th and 8th until 11:59 PM on September 10th.
Nevertheless, interstate buses are permitted to enter Delhi through other border points. Additionally, Delhi Police advise against visiting India Gate and Kartavya Path for walking, cycling, or picnicking during this period. Additonally, the Delhi Traffic Police has also introduced a virtual traffic helpdesk to ensure the smooth transition of vehicles.
