Emergency services and tow trucks responded to the incident.

All lanes have since reopened, though traffic remains heavy.

Australian Traffic Network’s Mardi Cole told 7NEWS the leftover delays were “really extensive”.

“Traffic banking back, all the way through the Northern Beaches. It was all along the M2 Motorway, even through to Chatswood on the Pacific Highway.”

Transport Management Centre’s Rob Austin thanked motorists for their patience.

“We were able to clear that incident within 30 minutes and (were) only seeing about 10km of queues this morning,” Austin told 7NEWS.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and allocate extra time for their trip.
