CWNT will be without Riviere, Rose for Olympic qualifiers vs. Jamaica

The Canadian Women’s National Team will be without two experienced players for an upcoming Olympic qualifying home-and-home against Jamaica.

Defender Jayde Riviere and forward Deanne Rose will both be unavailable due to injury. Annabelle Chukwu, 16, has been promoted to the senior team for the first time as a replacement.

Riviere, 22, is currently playing for Manchester United and has represented Canada twice at the World Cup and once at the Olympics. Rose, 24, recently signed with Leicester City FC and made her senior team debut in 2015.

Canada will play a road game in Jamaica on Friday before the teams travel to Toronto to play again on Sept. 26. Only the aggregate-score winner of the series will qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, a tournament in which Canada would be the defending gold medal winners. The winner will also qualify for the 2024 W Gold Cup Group Stage.
