Smoky air brought down from fires raging in Oregon and Northwest California left Bay Area skies hazy and skylines obstructed Tuesday, with air quality still in a moderate to unhealthy range early Wednesday morning according to the Air Quality Index.
With smoke clouding the air beginning around the afternoon on Tuesday, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District issued an air quality advisory lasting into Wednesday, advising residents to avoid the smoky conditions when possible.
As of 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, virtually the entire Bay Area recorded moderate to unhealthy air quality levels on the AQI scale.

Bay Area Air Quality Management District officials said Tuesday that pollutant levels were not expected to exceed the national 24-hour health standard and there was no Spare the Air alert in effect. The district recommended that residents avoid exposure to the smoky air by staying inside with doors and windows closed until the air clears up.
