Article content After a lengthy negotiation, the longtime co-host of Wheel of Fortune has inked a deal to remain with the game show through the 2025-26 season. Article content With Wheel of Fortune kicking off its 41st season earlier this month, White will be sticking around with new host Ryan Seacrest after he takes over from the departing Pat Sajak next fall. Seacrest reacted enthusiastically to the “great news” in an interview with Willie Geist for Sunday Today airing this weekend. “Vanna has been such a staple on that show and in our living rooms for so many years,” Seacrest, 48, said. “I’ve been very excited to work with her, but now that it’s official I can say, ‘Congratulations, Vanna.’ I can’t wait.” He added about her extension, “It’s super important to have Vanna White on Wheel of Fortune. It’s great news. I’m very happy to hear it and very happy I get to work with her.” Your noon-hour look at what’s happening in Toronto and beyond. Article content Seacrest said that White’s longtime presence on the show will mean he can lean on her when he has questions. “I can say, ‘How does this work? Where do we go now? What’s next? Okay, got it,’” he joked. With her existing deal set to expire at the end of next season, White, 66, was looking for a pay bump to keep tapping letters on the program. In 2016, Forbes reported that Sajak earned $15 million a year for his nightly appearances, while White has made $3 million a year for the past 18 years without any pay increases. Industry website Puck recently claimed that White had hired attorney Bryan Freedman to negotiate on her behalf. The lawyer was said to be apparently “hitting the pay discrepancy issue hard with Sony, as well as possible gender discrimination with respect to White’s salary.” Advertisement 4 This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. Article content The details of White’s new contract have not been released, but according to TMZ she’s in line for a “substantial pay increase.” Sajak announced in June that he would be stepping aside after the show’s 41st season telling fans that he’d had a “wonderful ride” in a social media post. Seacrest was announced as his replacement the following month. “I’m truly humbled to be stepping into the footsteps of the legendary Pat Sajak,” Seacrest said in a statement. “I can say, along with the rest of America, that it’s been a privilege and pure joy to watch Pat and Vanna on our television screens for an unprecedented 40 years, making us smile every night and feel right at home with them.” White joined Wheel in 1982 after original letter turner Susan Stafford left the show, but Sajak wasn’t originally sold on her as his co-host as she competed against two other finalists. Photo by Getty Images “Vanna knows this,” Sajak told CBS News in 2020. “Not that she wasn’t lovely and wonderful and personable and all that. But she was the most nervous, by far, of any of them.” Despite Sajak’s hints that the end was on the horizon in recent interviews, White said last year that retirement wasn’t on her mind. “I don’t want to think about that,” White said in an interview with PEOPLE. “I mean, we’re a team. That’s depressing. I don’t even want to think about it.” Looking ahead, she found it hard to envision a time when the pair wouldn’t be a part of the series. “I just visualize us just being there. I can’t think beyond that,” she said. “I can’t imagine. Everybody relates Wheel of Fortune to Pat and Vanna. We’re like Ken and Barbie, you know?” she explained. “We’ve been in everybody’s homes for 40 years, so it would be weird having somebody else turn my letters.” Per Variety, Season 41 will celebrate Sajak’s long tenure as host. Wheel is also planning to mix things up with theme weeks around holidays. Sajak’s daughter Maggie will also expand her role as the show’s social media correspondent hitting the road for a special “Fan Fridays” segments that will see her visiting different cities. mdaniell@postmedia.com X: @markhdaniell Pat Sajak defends Wheel of Fortune contestants after epic fail: ‘CUT THEM SOME SLACK’ Pat Sajak defends ‘Wheel of Fortune’ contestant after opponent mocks answer Article content Share this article in your social network Comments Postmedia is committed to maintaining a lively but civil forum for discussion and encourage all readers to share their views on our articles.
