AFL premiership hero Steven May rushed to hospital after night out with partner Sachi Dade

Melbourne AFL premiership defender Steven May was taken to hospital after an allergic reaction during a night out with his partner Sachi Dade over the weekend.

Just two mornings after Melbourne’s Keith “Bluey” Truscott Trophy night, Dade posted an image of May in a hospital bed, joking about what had happened.

“Why does he have to try and die before we go on our holiday?!” she wrote.

“What I am happy about though is that I can say I saved his life forever now. This will definitely have its advantages.”

The veteran Dees star was discharged from hospital on Sunday, at which stage the club had not yet determined what caused the anaphylactic reaction.

A hint in a text exchange between May and Dade suggests it may have been caused by seafood of some description.

In the exchange, May joked that “It was very shellfish of me to make the night about me again …”

Dade replied: “This anaphylaxis has f***** with your head.”

She joked he was “still a comedian when faced with adversity”.

“I’ve come to a team that’s loaded with superstars,” he said on the night.

“You come to these sort of nights and you don’t expect to be sitting up here because you’ve got the likes of our midfield, who are all superstar players, and I’m happy to just run out with them on a Saturday night or Friday night.

“So, for my name to be called out, I wasn’t on the leaderboard all night, so I wasn’t really picturing this.

“But it is a bit of a ‘pinch yourself’ moment to be named in the top five along (with) some of these superstars in our team.”

Christian Petracca won his second Keith ‘Bluey’ Truscott Trophy as the Dees’ best and fairest, while former captain Jack Viney finished second and May’s defensive partner, Jake Lever, rounded out the top three.
