Apple has officially added the Apple Watch Series 1 to its obsolete products list. The Cupertino-based tech giant has updated the vintage and obsolete product list on its website. The listing on the page confirms that all the first-generation Apple Watch models are now obsolete.
What are obsolete Apple products?
Apple explains that “Products are considered obsolete when Apple stopped distributing them for sale more than 7 years ago.” In other words, you don’t get any updates and in addition to that Apple will not repair or service them at all. In fact, even service providers cannot order parts for obsolete products. After the debut of the Apple Watch Series 4 in September 2018, Apple halted the production of the Series 1.
To recall, Apple launched the Watch Series 1 smartwatch in 2016. The smartwatch packed a dual-core processor. The wearable also comes equipped with a heart rate sensor and touchscreen Retina display.
Recently, Apple designated all first-generation Apple Watch models, including the premium $17,000 solid-gold Edition, as “obsolete.” According to a report by MacRumors, this move occurred on September 30, and it encompassed all first-gen Apple Watch models introduced in 2015.
The 18-karat gold casing, once priced at a premium of $17,000 in the US, is now considered obsolete. During its release, this opulent version adorned the wrists of influential celebrities. Additionally, there was a gold link bracelet that remained exclusive and never made available to the public. This foray into luxury marked Apple’s initial venture into competing with the high-end watch market. However, the solid-gold variant was discontinued after merely a year, making way for relatively more affordable ceramic and titanium versions.
