Charges laid after motorbike rider killed in multi-vehicle crash on Pennant Hills Rd in North Sydney

A man has been charged over the death of a motorcycle rider killed in a multi-vehicle crash in North Sydney.

Police say a ute, a motorcycle and three other cars collided about 11.45am Tuesday on Pennant Hills Rd, Normanhurst.

The ute and motorcycle then crashed into a nearby house and caught fire.

The male motorcycle rider, 59, died at the scene.

He has yet to be formally identified.

The driver of the ute, a 36-year-old man, was arrested and taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

He was later escorted to Hornsby Police Station and charged with five offences including dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving (occasioning death) and not stopping at the stop line at a red light.

He was refused bail and will front the Hornsby Local Court on Wednesday.

No information has been provided about the condition of the people in the other vehicles involved.

Pennant Hills Rd was closed in both directions for several hours as a result if the crash, causing heavy traffic in both directions.
