Are you ready to swing back into the heart-pounding world of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2? This time around, there are not one, but two Spideys – Peter Parker and Miles Morales – in a bigger New York than before.
We played the first few hours of this web-slinging adventure, and we can’t wait to share our first impressions. From electrifying combat to exploring the stunningly recreated New York City, this game has it all. So, stick around as we break down our thoughts on this web-tastic game!
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 returns after nine months since the events of Miles Morales. The city has changed, and so have our heroes, Peter Parker and Miles Morales. Peter is dealing with Aunt May’s loss and Harry Osborn‘s return. Miles is seeking his path and must battle Mr. Negative. Kraven the Hunter, the Lizard, and Venom complicate things. But they have bigger problems to tackle – the villains of New York City.
The two ‘amazing’ Spider-Men
Peter and Miles are both here to save the day, and you can switch between them in a flash, faster than you can say “web-sling.” Having two Spider-Men is double the fun, and with improved combat mechanics, you would want the fun never to end.
Each Spider-Man adds their personal touch to the fight. Successful attacks increase your focus, letting you unleash breathtaking special moves. The game’s parry system adds a new level of challenge. Customization is possible through the skill tree. There’s a slight learning curve, but the game keeps the excitement and leaves you craving more web-slinging action!
A bigger, better New York
Swinging through Manhattan as Spider-Man has always been exhilarating. But Spider-Man 2 takes that excitement to the next level by adding Brooklyn, Queens, and the iconic Coney Island, making the map twice as big. Additionally, web wings have been introduced, allowing you to soar like an avian hero. With the addition of new boroughs and their unique architecture, Spider-Man’s world feels more alive, even if the skyscrapers are replaced with cosy neighbourhoods. It is the most spectacular virtual New York you can explore, and just web-sling, glide through all of the city.
As for villains, Sandman is the first one to show up. Then, there’s Kraven the Hunter coming in, and Venom is there, too. Mr Negative is back along with a few other nemesis from the first two titles.
The best thing about the game so far is the teamwork between Peter and Miles, as they complement each other perfectly. Additionally, the combat system has been updated with new features, and the web-slinging through New York City is more exhilarating than before, giving the player the complete Spider-Man experience. Spider-Man 2 feels like an extravagant evolution in the first few hours, not just another ‘sequel.’ However, the sequel to Spider-Man 2 has much to live up to. We will discuss more about Spider-Man 2 in our full review once we finish swinging throughout New York.
