Best-selling author Dolly Alderton releases her new ‘sharply funny’ novel Good Material on Amazon

Reading enthusiasts have been waiting months for British author Dolly Alderton’s latest novel.

And on Friday, the floodgates opened with gusto, allowing just about anyone with access to the internet to order Good Material off Amazon.

It’s not often I’m swept up in a craze such as this but I’m very much a fan of Alderton’s work having read her previous novels Everything I Know About Love and Ghosts.

Good Material, available for $18 as a paperback novel or $15.99 on Kindle, is described as a “sharply funny, beautifully observed and exquisitely relatable story of heartbreak and friendship, and how to survive both”.

I downloaded it to my Kindle the moment I could and my colleague Sophie even had it coming in on pre-order.

So you know this is going to be the read of the summer season.

Alderton’s first book Everything I Know About Love became a top five Sunday Times bestseller in its first week of publication and won a National Book Award for Autobiography of the Year.

Her first novel Ghosts was published in October 2020 and was also a top five Sunday Times Bestseller.

I’ve just started to read the opening pages and I’m already hooked on the clever gags and monologues from the mouth of thirty-something-year-old Andy.

For those wanting to listen to the book, it’s available for 99 cents with an Audible membership.

While there are not yet customer reviews for the book, there are plenty of other novelists willing to lay claim that it’s one of the best they’ve read.

“This is the greatest. You’ll cry and laugh. I read it through the night. And I never, ever avoid sleep,” said Claudia Winkleman.

“Made me laugh while punching me in the gut. Loved this book,” Aisling Bea said.

A third writer wrote: “Highly relatable for millennials navigating dating in London and hugely insightful for those generations wanting to understand them. Packed with sharp observations and wisdom. A triumph”.

If you want to pick up the book before it sells out, you can do so on Amazon’s website.
