OAKLAND – A food truck employee was shot shortly after the business’ staff was robbed at gunpoint in Oakland’s Fruitvale district Friday night, authorities said.
A 48-year-old man was shot in the shoulder after he and a 39-year-old female coworker used a personal vehicle to trail the robbers, who allegedly seized cash and a necklace around 6 p.m. in the 3300 block of Foothill Boulevard, according to Oakland police.
Police said two suspects allegedly drove away, but quickly realized they were being followed near the 3200 block of Davis Street — only a half-mile north of where the initial robbery happened.
Oakland police said two men, armed with a rifle and handgun, then got out of the vehicle and began shooting at the food truck employees, wounding the man, who was transported to a hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition. The woman who was with him was not injured.
Oakland police are still investigating Friday’s robbery, as well as a string of similar crimes that have recently occurred in the city.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $7,500 reward money for information leading to the arrests of the robbers. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3326 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
