The family alerted police the next day when they could not contact him, prompting officers to appeal for information and release CCTV of Popovski’s last known movements.

But on Tuesday, after almost eight months of searching for Popovski, his body was found by a plumber in a crawl space underneath a unit block in Kogarah.

It’s suspected the 54-year-old’s body had been in the space, which residents say is occasionally used for storage, since April.

“My husband used to always complain because he said there is something smelly there,” a resident told 7NEWS.

In a statement, Popovski’s daughter Rebecca said: “Today my heart is broken, and my world has been torn apart. I will forever love you.”

A crime scene has been established and is being examined by specialist police.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding Popovski’s death has also been launched, and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
