The fight escalated with the two band members wrestling on the ground before The Forum activated its safety curtain.

According to fans at the concert, the fight allegedly involved band founder Anton Newcombe, who is known for his wild onstage antics, and guitarist Ryan Van Kriedt.

Fans said most of the concert was problematic in the lead-up to the brawl.

“The lead singer basically ranted for 50 per cent of the gig, primarily calling the audience c**** and continued to mouth off at one of the guitarists,” one fan wrote on social media.

“The show ended with Anton and Ryan in a physical fight, drum cymbals rolling and the curtain drawn.”

The fan, who said it was their first time seeing the band, was “disappointed”.

Another concertgoer said the performance was “disjointed, disorganised and chaotic” and the fight was “the grand finale to that car crash”.

“The tune-ups between songs were excruciatingly slow and with all the drama between the band and the crowd and then the band members themselves,” they said.

“They only played about seven or so songs. I was originally pissed off and ran out of patience but eventually just started laughing at the sheer insanity and childishness of it all.”

According to some fans of the band, which formed in 1990 in San Francisco, the concert’s wild crescendo wasn’t all that unusual.

Many said what happened at The Forum was actually very typical of The Brian Jonestown Massacre concert, and fans should be “thankful”.

“Typical BJM show and it’s been that way for decades,” one person wrote on social media.

“You got the proper BJM experience. Be thankful!!,” another said.

The Marriner Group, which runs The Forum, and The Brian Jonestown Massacre have been contacted for comment.
