Man takes delivery of Rolls-Royce Spectre EV in ‘chappals’: Social media erupts

A man in India has caused quite a stir on social media after taking delivery of his brand new Rolls-Royce Spectre EV while wearing traditional Indian footwear known as ‘chappals’. The EV, even before its launch in the country, was delivered to Chennai-based builder Baashyaam Yuvaraj.
With a global transition towards electric vehicles happening swiftly, the Spectre EVcomes as the maiden all-electric car from the British luxury car brand. The video in which the owner can be seen taking the delivery of the luxury EV (estimated to cost Rs 10 crore) from a dealership wearing slippers has been doing the rounds on social media lately. Many users have been applauding the man’s down-to-earth attitude and his refusal to let his wealth separate him from his roots. Some even related it to an old saying “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” Some users even said that chappals are from an expensive brand and cost a lot too.

Talking about the car, the two-door coupe is essentially a spiritual successor to the Phantom and is based on the same ‘architecture of luxury’ platform as its stablemates, the current-gen Phantom and Cullinan SUV. It is propelled by a fully-electric powertrain consisting of a dual-motor setup that belts out 577 hp and 900 Nm of peak torque. It is estimated that this model delivers a range of 520 km on a single charge. It sprints from 0-100 in just 4.5 seconds, which is quite impressive for a vehicle as heavy as a Rolls-Royce Spectre.
With the Spectre EV leading the charge for the company’s all-electric ambitions, the manufacturer, by 2030, will phase out all ICE models and will replace them with their EV counterparts.
