Footage shows the traveller – who uses the handle @__takol__ – boarding the plane with the Woolworths basket, which had his airline ticket, passport and other documentation inside.

He then stowed the basket in an overhead compartment for the flight, alongside other suitcases.

Later in the video, the TikTok user is seen taking the basket through what appears to be customs.

The man’s video has gone viral since it was shared on social media, attracting more than 330,000 views.

In the comments, the traveller admitted to being a former Woolworths employee – and also attracted a grilling from other supermarket workers.

“As an ex Woolies employee I am wondering how you got it out? We had make sure people didn’t take baskets out the door,” one said.

In response, the traveller replied: “As an ex-Woolies employee I know how it’s to be done.”

Many applauded the man over his bold “mission”.

“Can this be a trend? Imma take one to Malaysia lol,” one said.

Another said: “Customs: unexplained item in the bagging area.”

A third wrote: “My man! What a legend. I have like eight of these baskets at home.”

Woolworths responds

But while many were impressed with the former worker’s feat, a Woolworths spokesperson has discouraged shoppers from following in the man’s footsteps.

“We offer baskets for the convenience of our customers when shopping in store,” a spokesperson told 7NEWS.com.au.

“While we’re glad to see his commitment to our baskets, we do encourage all customers to return our baskets after their shop in consideration of our other shoppers.”
