On-and-off rain chances throughout the week in the Bay Area were predicted by the National Weather Service on Tuesday, with widespread showers expected to lead the charge overnight into Wednesday.
Though the expected rain totals were light and relegated to the late-Tuesday and early Wednesday hours, NWS confidence was high in regard to overnight rain across the region. A low pressure system was set to bring as high as a 75% chance of rain to most of the Bay Area beginning Tuesday night.

A NWS bulletin posted early Tuesday morning called the potential showers “beneficial rainfall,” though totals were forecast on the lighter side. The low pressure system was expected to hit the North Bay first at around 6 p.m. Tuesday before reaching San Francisco and the Peninsula between 9 p.m. and 12 a.m. The East and South Bays could expect to feel the first drops of rain between midnight and 3 a.m. Wednesday.
Besides the North Bay and parts of the coastal Peninsula, where rain totals could reach about one-half of an inch, totals elsewhere weren’t forecast to surpass more than about one-quarter of an inch before the system tapers off in the evening.
