They get more learned and more rich with character,” she said. “All of that is very beautiful and attractive, and not just physically, but on the inside, the beauty that you gain as you get older, the wisdom you gain.”Lopez, who appeared in Netflix’s action flick The Mother earlier this year, says she’s been pleased to watch Hollywood change its attitudes to actresses as they age.“It has changed a lot, and I think it’s appropriate,” she tells Elle. “As you get older and you have more experience, you become a richer human being and you have more to offer. The idea of, ‘There’s nothing really valuable about watching a woman over 30’ is so ridiculous, it’s the opposite of right. It just makes me laugh.”Your Midday SunYour noon-hour look at what’s happening in Toronto and beyond.By signing up you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc.Thanks for signing up!A welcome email is on its way. I don’t know what that age is. It might be 70, it might be 80, it might be 90, I don’t know. But I know that it’s there for me if I want it and I want to create it,” the On the Floor singer says. “That has always been the mindset that I’ve had: To never let anybody put me in a box because of where I was born, where I’m from, what age I am, anything like that. Those boundaries don’t exist for me.”Going forward, Lopez says she’s open to exploring different opportunities, both in front and behind the camera.“I want to keep evolving. And whether I’ll take the helm and direct my own film at one point is a possibility,” she says.Advertisement 4This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below.Article contentBut during her chat with Elle, Lopez admitted that she wished she had been more choosy earlier in her career.Recommended from Editorial Ben Affleck on renewed career and the experiences that mean the most to him Ben Affleck on Jennifer Lopez romance: ‘It’s a beautiful story’ Jennifer Garner backs Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez romance “I didn’t have that luxury, being Latina. I didn’t get called in for everything someone who wasn’t Latina would get called in for. I got called in for very specific things,” Lopez says. “As I started getting more leads here and there, I should have pulled back. I took that mindset with me instead of going, ‘I should only work with certain kinds of directors that I really want to work with. I should choose this material in a different way.’”Advertisement 5This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below.Article contentThe Hustlers star adds, “I just wasn’t as particular as I could be, I think. And if I [could] start over, I think I would’ve done that. I would’ve known that the director is really the helm of the project when you’re acting. Just like in singing, the producers you work with are very important. I knew that with music, but I didn’t quite understand it as much when I was younger about directors.”In the meantime, Lopez, who married Ben Affleck last year, is planning for a big 2024 with the release of This Is Me…Now, her first studio album in nearly a decade in February and a musical sequel to 2002’s This is Me…Then.
