History & Heraldry Christmas tree LED light-up gnome decorations recalled by Product Safety Australia over safety concerns

A light-up Christmas tree decoration has been urgently recalled after safety concerns were raised, including the risk of “choking, severe internal burn injuries or death to young children”.

Product Safety Australia issued the recall for History & Heraldry Christmas tree LED light-up gnome decorations sold under various names and colours at over 200 locations and retailers around the country between October 1 and December 4.

The safety watchdog says the decorations do not “comply with the mandatory standards” for the button, or coin, batteries used in the decoration.

“The button/coin battery packaging is not resistant to being opened by young children,” it said.

“There is a risk of choking, severe internal burn injuries or death to young children if they gain access to the button/coin batteries.

“This can occur within two hours of swallowing or placing them into their bodies.”

Anyone who has purchased this decoration should “immediately” stop using them and store them out of reach of children.
