What do you see first? Optical illusion reveals your personality type

Are you an intuitive type who doesn’t want to draw attention to yourself, or are you judgemental and hard to please?

A new optical illusion claims it can uncover the type of personality trait you have when it comes to relationships — depending on what your eyes are drawn to first.

Content creator Mia Yilin suggested what you first decipher in this somewhat surreal picture can help you discover insights into your personality.

There are two different things that can be seen in the image.

So what’s the first thing you see?

“If you first saw the nose and mouth, then you are a very intuitive person,” Yilin said.

“You’re great at hidden signals and always know what to say in social situations.

“However, you often prefer to remain quiet, because you don’t like to attract attention.

“As a result, people tend to underestimate your capabilities.”

If you first saw two birds, your personality type is rather different.

“If you first saw the birds then you are someone who is very difficult to impress,” Yilin said.

“You are quite judgemental towards other people, but you’re able to suppress your feelings and get along with them, which is why you’re so well-liked.

“Whenever you find a new hobby, you hyper-fixate on it for a short period of time, and then quickly lose interest.”

Followers were divided between what they saw — most agreeing with Yilin’s analysis.

“Accurate – I saw the birds and I have ADHD,” one follower said.

“I saw the lips, and it’s true,” said another.

“That’s damn good,” a third wrote. “Spot on as always.”

Another said they were feeling confused because they saw bits of both at the same time.

“Why do I seem to fit in fractions of both descriptions?” one follower wondered.

“First time I saw both at the same time but the face stood out,” wrote another.

‘Traditional art’

In an interview with The Morning Show in late August, hosts Kylie Gillies and Larry Emdur asked Yilin whether there was “science” behind her own interpretations of optical illusions.

“I’d say yes and no,” she said.

“Yes in the sense that this idea of translating image to personality is a traditional art that has been practised in Chinese culture.

“But at the same time, I do recognise that it is really what you make of it.

“And, at the end of the day, if I am able to make people laugh, provoke them to think, make them feel less alone, then, to me, my job is accomplished.”

Everyday life

Yilin said she sources the pictures from her everyday life.

“A lot of different ways of finding these images actually,” she explained.

“If I see cool pictures in books, movies, on the internet, sometimes even taking a stroll outside and seeing cool patterns in nature, I will just take a picture of it and include it in my videos.”

Yilin said her fascination with optical illusions started in the past year when she started posting videos about them online.

“I have always been surrounded by things like palm readings and face readings, which are huge parts of Chinese culture so I’ve gravitated towards optical illusions,” she said.

“And upon coming across them in the past year, my mind has just been racing.”
