Beware Bengaluru motorists! Police to inform employer if worker violates traffic rules

In a unique decision to enforce traffic laws, Bengaluru’s tech community faces a stern warning from the Traffic Police. In a bid to bolster awareness of road safety, the east division of Bengaluru Traffic Police initiated a pilot campaign along the Information Technology corridor encompassing the Outer Ring Road and Whitefield.
Although currently confined to the east division, the campaign’s extension to other parts of Bengaluru hinges on a significant reduction in violations.The campaign emerged in response to an uptick in trafficviolations, particularly noticeable among tech professionals. The tech workers in the state were found to be jumping signals or surpassing speed limits to reach their offices in time, thereby violating traffic regulations, as highlighted by a senior traffic official.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (East division – Traffic), Kuldeep Kumar Jain, clarified that the campaign operates on a pilot basis in Bengaluru’s east division. Violations by IT company employees trigger direct notifications to their respective companies via email or WhatsApp. This approach seeks to heighten awareness and consciousness of traffic rules and road safety among the city’s tech workforce.
Jain emphasized that the primary objective of the initiative is to ensure compliance with traffic laws. The process involves verifying the identification cards of violators, allowing traffic police to identify their employers and subsequently communicate a list of violations to the respective tech companies. The traffic police also recommend tech firms to organize internal awareness campaigns on road safety and inviting police for sessions on traffic rules. Inputs from PTI.
